A tale of two labs: comparing antimicrobial resistance data in pets across commercial and academic diagnostic laboratories

  02 June 2025

This study compares antimicrobial resistance (AMR) data from university-affiliated diagnostic laboratories (UADLs) and commercial diagnostic laboratories (CDL) in New York State between 2019 and 2022. Results show lower susceptibility rates for UADL data than CDL, but this difference varies by bacteria-antimicrobial combination, geographic region, and time. The study also developed a Shiny application to harmonize data without exchanging raw data, highlighting the importance of considering data source characteristics when analyzing AMR surveillance reports.
